Board of Trustees

Rachel McDonald

Rachel McDonald I am a Senior Associate & Team Leader specialising in trade marks at Baldwins Intellectual Property. In my role I assist clients in the development of strategies to protect, enforce and grow their brands in New Zealand, Australia and worldwide. I am a New Zealand and Australian Registered Patent Attorney, and hold a Certificate in Business Studies from Massey University.

At work I am heavily involved with the mentoring and training of new law graduates and I provide tutoring for the Trade Mark examination paper of the New Zealand Patent Attorney qualification. I also have a yearly involvement with The University of Auckland, teaching the trade mark component of the CHEM101 commercialisation paper. My business background has provided me with a range of diverse skills including advocacy, management and leadership experience, strategy, ability to see the bigger picture and working as part of a team.

Besides the above, my most important role is that of a full-time mum of Charlotte and Max McDonald. Charlotte (Yr 3) and Max (Yr 2) are both at Gulf Harbour School. During Charlotte’s time at the school, I’ve been involved with the PTA. I’m also the current secretary for North Harbour Mini Motocross, where both Max and Charlotte participate. More recently, I’ve started to relive my earlier netball days by coaching the Year 3 Sport Gulf Harbour Netball Team.

I know the New Zealand school system well, having grown up in Glenfield, and attended Windy Ridge Primary, Glenfield Intermediate and Glenfield College. My husband & I moved to Whangaparaoa 10 years ago. We love the coast and would not live anywhere else.

I believe that my commitment and enthusiasm for Gulf Harbour and the future success of our children, coupled with my business background, makes me an ideal fit with the Board and its objectives.
